Honestly, when I first heard they were remaking this series I sneered at the idea. Mainly because I couldn't stand the original series when I was forced to watch it as a kid.

I keep seeing folks on my reading lists squee over it but I haven't read any of the posts because I haven't seen any of the show.

So can you guys sell me on why I should give it a chance? Other than pretty boy slash, I mean. ;)

amen.. but I watched it on Hulu for the 1st time last week.. just because of all the chatter on LJ.. still not impressed with the whole show.. but the boys are pretty =) and in time it could grow on you.. I just don't have time to add anymore TV in my life.. so I will wait till it shows on NetFlix and spend a few days drowning in it.. but you should try a ep.. just for the pretty factor.

I AM SO EQUIPPED TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION.

It's got a great team dynamic - it's really, really awesome. The team just clicked right away. It's not all harmony, though - there's that push-and-pull that you got with shows like SG1 and SGA, where they work well together and you can tell they're friends but they still challenge each other and drive each other sort of batshit insane. At the end of the day, though, they have each others' backs and you know they always will be.

It's really character-driven in a way that most crime shows aren't. It's not a procedural like the CSIs are; there's crime stuff and there's science stuff, but there's also a lot of personal development. I can honestly day that by halfway through the first season, I as as heavily invested in these characters - Danny and Steve, especially - as I was in John and Cam in Stargate. Caan and O'Loughlin really give them life and make them engaging characters. Chin and Kono are also pretty badass; it's not that I'm not invested in them and their character arcs, because I totally am,it's just that Danny and Steve really steal the show for me.

The recurring characters are treated really well. You meet Danny's daughter in the first episode, and she's not flat - she's got dynamic to her, and they keep it up throughout the season. Danny's ex-wife and her new husband also pop up from time to time, and they're really believable as well. Kamekona is an ex-criminal informant who now runs a shave ice stand, and he's actually in a lot of episodes, bringing a lot to the show. They really pay attention to the background characters and treat them with a lot of respect, which doesn't always happen in shows.

There's humor - oh, is there humor. There's a lot of snarky sarcasm between Steve and Danny, a lot of teasing, a lot of good-natured ribbing. It's a joy to watch some scenes, just because of the interactions.

And yeah, okay, the plot can get a little predictable, and they ignore a lot of the law and do whatever they want under the guise of the 'full immunity and means' that they have as a task force, and there are several instances of 'political correctness: you're doing it wrong,' but there's really a lot to make up for that, and barring this latest episode, there hasn't been an episode that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed (this one, P. Diddy, what even, bad decision).

And hey, if all else fails, who can resist these faces?

NOT I.

Damn you make an awesome pimp! I think you've sold me on giving it a shot because I love all those qualities in a show that you've named off.

And those are some very pretty faces there, especially the one lying on the tabletop.;)

I am not as equipped as somehowunbroken but since I'm watching because of her, I'll give my opinion.

It's pretty.

It's lighthearted.

It's got the Chairman from Iron Chef America.

It's got Iron Chef Morimoto as a guest star.

The secret ingredient is to kill Steve's Mom... with cabbage ((Ok, I made up that part))

It's fun.
