don't you just hate dreaming that you're awake and can't move. the freaky part was the fact that every time i breathed out i saw this black smoke or fog come out of my mouth and it felt like someone was pinning me down. it took a few times say 'get the fuck off of me' before i could move.

i really do hate when that happens.

I have found it helpful, in that situation, to think of two things: one is a mental "safe space" I created years back, which is a log cabin on a mountainside facing a lake -- just thinking of it makes me feel calm and peaceful -- and of a warm, golden, brilliant light coming from within me that pushes the thing on my chest away. Both work, depending on the situation.

Given that I used to have horrible nightmares as a kid, I learned a long time ago how to flip my dreams in my favor. Trouble was I was dreaming that I was awake during it. Once I got up and shook it off for a few minutes I was able to get back to sleep.

What's got me giggling over my coffee at the moment is the location your safe place. Because when I learned how to flip my dreams I was 10 and we lived in a cabin on a lake and I was having horrible nightmares about Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th movies (parents made a mistake of letting me watch the first three movies in a marathon). I refused to sleep in my own room for fear he would get me or go in the lake after that.

Well, my cabin doesn't actually exist; it's one that I've been designing and planning off and on for a few decades. It's my dream house, if such dreams allowed for easy access to food and health care...

I actually didn't think it existed, I'd just thought it was a funny coincidence. :)

It is, it is. :)

The only other person I know who didn't think the cabin would be a restful place was someone from Montana who didn't like places where she couldn't see 20 miles away in every direction.

Ugh, what a horrible way to wake up. *hugs*

Four hundred years ago, this sort of thing might have started a witch hunt, eh?

I'm just glad it was a dream cause it was starting to freak me out. ;)

Oh yeah, it really would have. Now they just try and say you're psychotic. *giggle*
