I think I'm going to stop telling my family about anything to do with me (meaning anything creative, neat, or just nice) because the strongest response is 'meh'. It really gets fucking tiring to not have anyone give a fuck.

Welcome to the club, and I mean that with full sympathy. I have stopped telling my relatives (except for two cousins) anything about my life because they think of me as a total freak for everything I do: knitting, spinning, music, art... It's just not worth the stress. The two cousins I can talk with are a writer and an artist.

But please do know that those of us who read you online do value you and what you do.

And we're supposed to jump with excitement over anything in their lives or be completely sympathetic to what's going on (I've been called a cold-hearted bitch on more than one occasion for not showing the proper amount of sympathy over shit that my brother has brought upon himself).

But please do know that those of us who read you online do value you and what you do.

Y'know, I'm gonna just adopt the Mitchells as my mental family. My mom and my late aunts and my favorite late uncle would've loved them. (Seems like all the relatives I get along with are invisible, currently and for the foreseeable future, while the visible ones are "practical" Republicans who don't give a damn about anything creative or, for that matter, anything that involves human emotion. Yep. I'm adopting the Mitchells. [note: not every family with that name is included, which means my own "Mitchell" relatives can continue being Texas oil neo-cons without me.])

::sends hugs and scotch for you not being a fake::

Argh! I hate when people do that, like they have a crystal ball and can actually see it.

Life is too short.

Damn straight.

Sorry to hear that your family is a bunch of meh-heads.

I long ago gave up trying to share fannish things with my own. At best, I get the confused "nod and smile".

Which makes me love my husband all the more, as he not only understands my excitement, but occasionally shares in it.

FWIW, *I* give a fuck.

That doesn't sound right, but, you know.

*hugs* Thankfully you have people on the internet who care about the stuff you care about a lot.

Slightly OT: God my father is a blessing. He's not into the same stuff as me, but he gets it, you know?
