star trek: nemesis
I've finally gotten to see this movie and...

eta: I should clarify... I did enjoy the movie a lot.

*hugs you*

I was such a fucking wreck, afterwards. I remember it vividly.

It's a good thing we have such good practice and skills with scifi-handwaving, eh? ;)

And seriously, NEVER. HAPPENED.

Ugh, Nemesis. Such a profoundly lazy movie!

I happened to like it a great deal, other than that thing that didn't really happen.

I dunno, I can't even work up a good ST V level of dislike for it, it's just sort of... there.

Shinzon has no real motivation for either attacking Earth or mind-raping Troi, nobody mentions Lore despite the blindingly obvious parallels, there's no reason for the fight between Riker and the Viceroy at the end, and do they even bother to explain Worf's presence this time around? Or why the Federation and the Romulans have gone right back to being enemies after the Dominion War?

And the climax that leads up to the thing that didn't happen is equally lazy; what, they couldn't take an extra ten seconds to say that the shuttles' transporters are out, too, and explain why they couldn't fly over to rescue Data? Or why Data couldn't set his phaser to self-destruct and then jump back over to the Enterprise, or even just into the safety of deep space?

It's not even like there's a bad story in there; if it had been about the Enterprise crew having to deal with a coup in the Romulan Empire, replacing a potentially-friendly group with a new hardliner, and having to decide if Federation security justifies meddling in Romulan internal political matters, that could've ben really interesting. But Nemesis, as is, just sort of... is.
